April 4, 2011 TGKV meeting minutes

The TKGV vice- president called the April 2011 meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. by welcoming our guests and giving birthday wishes to our members who celebrate their birthday in April. Several members commented the meeting time in Facebook may be incorrect. Our Facebook liaison will correct the meeting time.

Norma Haynes, Sue Von Ohlsen and Maureen Cahill presented an inspiring program on the Masters Knitting class series available through the Knitting Guild of America. For further information on the class series, access the Knitting Guild of America’s website or Cast On magazine.

The minutes from the March, 2011 meetings were approved.

The treasurer’s report was received.

The president welcomed and introduced three new members to the guild.

Debbie Henderson advised the various agencies are no longer taking winter hats until next winter. Debbie advised there is a need for baby hats and baby layette items.

We were advised the TKGV Knit in Public Day will take place either June 12, 2011 or June 19, 2011 at the D’Art Center in Norfolk, Virginia. We await final word from the D’Art Center on which date is available.

The Cornerstone Alpaca Farm in Windsor, Virginia is shearing the alpacas on 04/08/11 and the Gathering of the Guilds will take place on April 9, 2011 at the Frances Land House.

Kim Reynolds, Social Media Director, for XRX, which owns Knitters Magazine and the Stitches Expo series advised of the Stitches South Expo taking place 04/14 – 04/16/11 in Atlanta, Ga.

We were advised the Sally Melville classes will be Emergency Measures and Borders & Buttonholes. We may schedule 2 1.5 hours classes in addition. We will receive further information on the classes.

The president solicited a list of names of possible teachers to contract for 2012.

Sonja Barisic requested volunteers for submitting articles for the newsletter and for participating as the subject of “getting to know you” articles. Please contact Sonja if you have articles or will participate in the getting to know you series.

Following the knitting show and tell, the Ways and Means committee raffled items from Knitting Addiction in Nags Head, N.C. and from The Knitting Corner in Virginia Beach, VA.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
